This surgery, also known as mastopexy with implants, raises the bust, gives a more aesthetic shape and a firmer consistency. With the use of the implants you can give volume especially in the upper portion of the breast. Furthermore, this surgery not only raises the bust, it can change the shape of the breast and the areola from stretching the skin if it is flaccid.
There are different surgical techniques available according to the patient´s anatomy, there are young patients with tuberous breasts, asymmetric breast, patients who have ended breastfeeding, weight loss or patients due to ageing process present have sagging of the breasts with loss of volume.
The surgical technique is chosen depending on how much the nipple needs to be lifted and the characteristics of each patient’s shape and skin. When it is only a few centimetres of lift and the skin is not flaccid, a circular periareolar technique can be used resulting in a round scar at the edge of the areola. When there is flaccidity and we need to lift the nipple further, the technique will be a vertical mastopexy resulting in a round scar at the edge of the areola and a vertical one that descends to the lower mammary groove. When flaccidity is even greater and the nipple must be raised many centimetres, the technique will be mastopexy in an anchor or inverted T, resulting in a round scar at the edge of the areola, vertical to the mammalian furrow and a horizontal one underneath it. All these techniques are used with the placement of an implant to give more volume or achieve a full upper breast.
An overnight stay is required, you will use a special bra after surgery for two or three weeks and partial rest is recommended for the same time. You can return to sport activities 6 to 8 weeks after the procedure. You may experience a slight lack of breast and nipple sensitivity that improves over time. The results are immediate and the inflammation disappears gradually leaving the final results in 6 months. The scar gradually diminishes until it becomes almost imperceptible in a year.
